Takotsubo cardiomyopathy and the hope of specific biomarker

چکیده
In this edition of the Medical Journal of Indonesia, Mavridis et al1 reported a rare case of takotsubo cardiomyopathy. In this case, a pneumothorax patients suffered continuous shortness of breath although pulmonary collapse has been relieved after sealed drainage. Specific STsegment elevation on ECG along with elevation of troponin I, have led the physician to confirm diagnosis of myocardial infarction. This patient was finally presented to cardiac catheterization unit. However, no significant coronary artery stenosis was found. Diagnosis of takotsubo cardiomyopathy was finally established, and the patient underwent apical resection. The condition of patient improved within three days.

Persistent Long-Term Structural, Functional, and Metabolic Changes After Stress-Induced (Takotsubo) Cardiomyopathy
BACKGROUND Takotsubo cardiomyopathy is an increasingly recognized acute heart failure syndrome precipitated by intense emotional stress. Although there is an apparent rapid and spontaneous recovery of left ventricular ejection fraction, the long-term clinical and functional consequences of takotsubo cardiomyopathy are ill-defined. METHODS In an observational case-control study, we recruited 3...

INTRODUCTION Stress-induced (Takotsubo) cardiomyopathy is a rare form of cardiomyopathy which presents in a manner similar to that of acute coronary syndrome. This sometimes leads to unnecessary thrombolysis therapy. The pathogenesis of this disease is still poorly understood. We believe that reporting all cases of Takotsubo cardiomyopathy will contribute to a better understanding of this disea...
متن کاملIntegral role of cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnostic workup of suspected takotsubo cardiomyopathy: Avoiding misdiagnosis.
Takotsubo cardiomyopathy (TC), or stress cardiomyopathy, is an increasingly recognized acute but reversible myopathic process affecting the ventricle. Although specific criteria have been published to diagnose this entity, traditionally, coronary angiography has been used to exclude coronary artery disease in this condition. We present a case initially suspected to be TC based on clinical and a...
متن کاملPathology of Takotsubo (Ampulla) Cardiomyopathy
Takotsubo (ampulla) cardiomyopathy is characterized by slight to moderate elevation of cardiac enzymes. It is reasonable to think that the elevated levels are evidence of myocardial damage (cardiac-specific enzymes are released from the cytoplasm of damaged cardiac myocytes into extracellular fluid). Thus, it is problematic to consider takotsubo cardiomyopathy as (neurogenic) stunned myocardium...
متن کاملTakotsubo cardiomyopathy following subarachnoid hemorrhage* Síndrome de takotsubo após hemorragia subaracnoidea
Takotsubo cardiomyopathy corresponds to a syndrome characterized by a transient myocardial dysfunction affecting the left ventricular apex that classically occurs after major physical or emotional stress (also called “broken heart syndrome” or “stress-induced cardiomyopathy”). The author describes the case of a patient with takotsubo cardiomyopathy induced by subarachnoid hemorrhage.
